Organizations eligible for grant consideration must provide programs and services that directly benefit children & families. Organizations must be 501(c)3 tax-exempt. Services must be provided solely in the four counties served by RMHC-RGV: Cameron, Hidalgo, Starr & Willacy Counties in the state of Texas.

Grant size: In general, RMHC-RGV makes grants at a maximum of $2,000. There is no minimum grant amount.

Letter of Intent: A letter of interest may be submitted at any time. All organizations that submit letters prior to May 1 will be informed whether they are invited to make a full grant proposal for the June 1 deadline. All organizations that submit letters prior to October 1 will be informed whether they are invited to make a full grant proposal for the November 1 deadline.

Grant proposals: Proposals should be submitted only if requested by the committee in response to a letter of interest. Proposals should be in writing and include the following:

Cover letter, signed by senior staff or Board chair, outlining:

  1. History of the organization
  2. Nature of the proposal and request
  3. Brief description of needs
  4. Specific purpose of the funds requested
  5. Target population and number of children and/or families to be served

Budget and Financial Information, including

  1. Current year’s operating budget
  2. Itemized budget for the program/project to be funded
  3. Audited financial statements and/or latest 990 forms
  4. IRS 501(c)(3) ruling confirming the organization’s tax-exempt status

Grant Selection Process: Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Rio Grande Valley is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. A subcommittee of this Board reviews grant applications and recommends funding to the full Board.

The Board makes grant decisions twice annually. A letter of interest may be submitted at any time. All organizations that submit letters prior to May 1 will be informed whether they are invited to make a full grant proposal for the June 1 deadline. All organizations that submit letters prior to October 1 will be informed whether they are invited to make a full grant proposal for the November 1 deadline. Full grant proposals are due by June 1 for funding on or before July 15 or November 1 for funding on or before December 15.

RMHC-RGV will acknowledge receipt of each proposal in writing within 30 days of receipt. At that time, you will be informed which review timeline (July 15 funding or December 15 funding) your grant has been assigned. Please be advised it may be 6 months or more before a funding decision is made.

All Board decisions are reported by mail within the time limits set forth above.

The recipient of any grant from RMHC-RGV must use the funds awarded for the specific purpose outlined in their original request. Any request for a revision regarding use of funds must be made in writing and must receive prior written approval from RMHC-RGV.

A follow-up reports on use of funds may be requested at the time a grant is made. In this case, a time frame for reporting will be communicated to you in writing.

One-half of the funds granted will be available when the grant decision is made. The second half will come in the form of a match from RMHC Global in Oak Brook, IL. It may take 8-12 weeks for the second half of the grant to arrive.

RMHC-RGV Does NOT fund:

  • Advertising or fundraising costs
  • Partisan, political or denominational/religious programs
  • Endowment campaigns
