Dorothy first became aware of the Ronald McDonald House Charities in the late 1970’s, when there were only a few houses in the country. At the time, she had a baby who needed long-term hospitalization far from home. She remembers thinking how wonderful the idea of a Ronald McDonald House sounded and how much she wished it were available near the hospital where they were. She drove 100 miles each way, for almost a month to visit her child. It was either driving 100 miles or having to pay for an expensive hotel stay.
During her drives, she vowed that if she ever had the opportunity, she would volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House. Almost 30 years later, the opportunity arose. Dorothy is one of our very faithful volunteers. Since 2003, she has volunteered at the Reception Desk answering phones, handling mail, receiving donations, etc. Occasionally, she helps in the kitchen baking a batch of cookies for the residents. At our golf tournament, Dorothy drives the golf cart through the course to offer the players some drinks during a hot day.
Dorothy has volunteered 304 hours since 2003. We thank you for making a difference at the Ronald McDonald House!
